Sports: Other sports

There are many sports whose effect on the risk of suffering back pain is still unknown. Actually, there is increased risk in all sports that require either flexo-extension or torsion movements, especially when accompanied by the use of weights, and/or prolonged flexion or hyperextension postures, or brisk movements or vibrations.

This type of sport is not advisable for your spine but, if you train correctly, constantly and intensely, it is most probable that muscular development may compensate for the adverse effects entailed and consequently you may practice the sport. It will also depend on the intensity and frequency with which you practice these sports, and if you perform exercises to rehabilitate the spine.

In any case, you must cease playing any sports if you experience back pain. Insist on doing training exercises and, if your attraction for a particular type of sport is such that you are willing to assume a certain risk, consult a specialized physician and try again when your muscles have developed appropriately.
